يتناول كتاب "الإيمان والعقل" ماهية العلاقة بين الإيمان الديني وبين الأحكام المتعلقة بالإحتمالية، وهو الجزء الأخير من ثلاثية الفلسفة التأليهية التي تقول بوجود الرب، متحدثاً عن "الترابط المنطقي لمفهوم التأليه"، ثم البرهان الذي يثبت صحة هذا القول، حيث تطرق إلى تقييم قوة الحجج المبنية على الظواهر التي تدعم وجود الرب، مجاوباً على تساؤل يسبقه وهو التساؤل حول ماهيمة الهدف من ممارسة دين معين، أو ما يسمى بإتباع طريقة دينية معينة.
ويحرص المؤلف على تناول نوعية الإيمان التي تتطلبها ممارسة أي ديانة، ويتناول بصورة أساسية نوعية الإيمان التي تتطلبها ممارسة الديانة المسيحية، متطرقاً إلى التحليلات المختلفة التي أوردها اللاهوتيون المسيحيون بشأن ذلك.
وبناءً على ما سبق فإن هذا الكتاب يتمحور بصورة أكبر حول المسيحية مقارنة بالأجزاء التي سبقته، كما أنه يشكل صلة وصل مع رباعية صدرت مؤخراً وتتناول التعاليم المسيحية.
ومن المؤكد أن القارئ لا يحتاج بالضرورة إلى قراءة الأجزاء السابقة من أجل فهم هذا الجزء وإستيعابه.
