يحكي الكتاب صراعاً بين شخصيات مثل نيكسون والشاه وأحمد زكي يماني وكيسنجر وغيرهم، كما يتضمّن قصصاً تُقال للمرة الأولى، توضّح مثلاً درجة التورّط الإيراني في السياسة الأميركية في السبعينيات، وإلى أيّ حدٍ وصل تأثير الدول النفطية إلى داخل البيت الأبيض.
يقدم الكتاب أجوبةً لأسئلة ظلّت مطروحة لفترة طويلة حول التخطيط لحالات الطوارئ بين الولايات المتحدة وإيران، والمشروع النووي الإيراني وغير ذلك، ما يضع حداً للجدل الدائر حول التعاملات السرية بين نيكسون والشاه فيما يخص أسعار النفط وصفقات السلاح، ومدى علم البيت الأبيض بالتهديد الإرهابي على المواطنين الأمريكيين في إيران، وعلمه بالمعارضة المتصاعدة ضدّ الشاه من شعبه، وما إذا كان على علم مسبق بالعلاج السرّي الذي كان يخضع له الشاه من مرض السرطان، وأسباب العلاقة المتوترة بين الولايات المتحدة وإيران لدرجة لا نكاد نصدّق معها أنّهما كانتا حليفتين ذات يوم، ناهيك عن أن تكونا شريكتين في مخطّط سرّي لغزو السعودية والإستيلاء على ثروتها النفطية.
