في روايته "ببغاوات ساحة أريزو" يفتح الروائي والمخرج الفرنسي إريك إيمانويل شميث نافذة على عوالم رومانتيكية حالمة، وأخرى واقعية صارخة تجتمع كلها في (ساحة أريزو) الإيطالية الجميلة التي لا يخترق سكونها سوى أصوات حادة لطيور متعددة الألوان، يفهم المتسكعون عند سماعها أن ساحة أريزو تخفي حشداً من الببغاوات والدرَّات. وسط هذه الأجواء يقع مكتب مفوض أوروبي يشغل منصب المضاربة، تمتد علاقاته إلى رؤوساء دول، إنه "زكاري بيد زمان" الرجل القوي والثري والعقلاني، يبدو في حوار صريح مع صديقه المثقف "هنري" الذي يخبره أنه تم طلاقه من زوجته، وبيدرمان يهنئه على ذلك "عزيز هنري"، إنني مغتبط لطلاقك، إنك تترك الظلمات لتصل إلى النور، أهلاً وسهلاً في نادي ذوي البصيرة" عند هذه النقطة ينفتح السرد على وصف للعلاقات الزوجية (العاطفية والجنسية) ومقارنات يقولها بيدرمان بين زواج الأمس وزواج اليوم مع صديقه هنري، وكأنه يقول له "يجب ألا تعشق لنوفق في زواجنا؟". أما بالنسبة إلى بيدرمان فهذا هو زواجه الثالث من روز الثرية، وهو زواج عقلاني برأيه "إنه زواجي الثالث، وكذلك الأمر بالنسبة إلى روز، وهذا يعني إننا لم نكن نريد أنا وهي أن نخطئ" وعبر علاقة بيدرمان وروز وأصدقائهم تكشف الرواية عن عدد من الحالات الزوجية، حيث يجري تفسير نجاح أو فشل كل علاقة، والجميع يبحث عن الحب والسعادة، وكأن الرواية تقول لنا بأن هناك عدد من السعادات بقدر البشر في هذا العالم الواسع. "ببغاوات ساحة أريزو" رواية دافئة، مليئة بالعواطف والمشاعر الرقيقة، هي خير هدية يُمكن أن تُقدم للمتزوجين.
