"على قارعة الطريق" عمل قصصي جديد للكاتبة شفاء العوير يسلط الضوء على العلاقات الاجتماعية وتشابكها وتعقيداتها بأنواعها، ويُبرز ما خفي منها، ويضيء الظلال المتوارية خلف حركة الناس وذواتهم وعقولهم، وكل ذلك يأتي بخطاب روائي يطغى فيه السرد على الحوار، ولغة مباشرة تسمي الأشياء بأسمائها، لا تهمل التفاصيل ولا الجزئيات. ولكنها، تنطوي على انتقائية مدروسة هي أكثر تعبيراً عن دراية كاتبتها بفن القصّ وبنائيته.
في المقدمة التي تفتتح بها الكاتبة عملها هذا تقول: "لكلّ منا حكايات ألم تسكن روحه، يجهل كيف يعزفها، فتبقى حبيسة صدره، تؤلمه حيناً وتعاتبه حيناً آخر. لكلّ منا معزوفته الخاصة. ولكن، عندما يكون الألم مشتركاً بيننا، يقوم بعزفنا ولا نقوم بعزفه؛ حتى نصبح حبيسي تلك المعزوفة، ونبحث عن معزوفة تشبه معزوفتنا لنخرج قليلاً من آلامنا. سّطرت هنا وجعاً يستوطن قلوبنا ويسكن أرواحنا، نجهل كلّ الجهل كيفية إخراجه، فعزفت الحروف مقطوعتها على الورق ليخرج منها بعض القصص التي نراها كل يوم ونغض الطرف عنها.
وتتابع الكاتبة: إن أبطال قصصي يعيشون حولنا، ويروون كل يوم قصة مختلفة من الآلام والآمال. أبطالي ليسوا من نسج الخيال، بل هم قريبون منا إلى حدّ أنهم يشبهوننا في بعض الأحيان. وفي أحيان أخرى، يتحدثون على ألسنة أحبتنا. حقاً، لم أستطع أن أصل إلى كل آلامنا وأوجاعنا؛ فمنها ما نجد صعوبة في فك قيده لنطلق صراحة من أرواحنا، ومع هذا، حاول أبطال قصصي أن يرووا جزءاً مما نعانيه.
وتختتم الكاتبة بالقول: لكل منا حكاية، ولكل منا معزوفته الخاصة، فلنبحث عما يشبهنا لنفهم وجعنا أكثر، ولنعلم معزوفات مَن حولنا لنقدر على مدّ يد العون لهم".
يضم الكتاب اثنا عشر قصة قصيرة جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: "أمل بين أشواك الألم"، "الطيبة في زماننا مشروع فاشل"، "الوطن أغلى من الولد"، "أحلام محطمة"، "قالوا أنهم فرحة"، "للظلم حكايات"، "لست عاراً"، "أمنية لن تتحقق"، "الجرح يتجدد"، "ولادة على قارعة الطريق"، "هو وهي"، و"سيبقى الأمل".
