"لأننا سعوديون!
عالم واحد وتناقضات شتى نعيشها. رغبات متمردة وقيم عتيقة. أفكار متحررة وعقول متصوفة. أحلام جامحة واجتهادات محدودة. كل ما سبق هو (نحن)! ورغم كل ما سبق فنحن نحبنا جداً ونعتز بنا جداً.. ونؤمن بأن الوطن هو الأهم.. وبأننا جزء منه وهو أجزاء منا..". هذا ما تقوله الكاتبة أريج الطيب عن عملها الموسوم بـ "لأننا سعوديون.. يوميات ليس أكثر" وهو عبارة عن مجموعة مقالات اجتماعية ترصد من خلالها الكاتبة حركة الحياة اليومية في بلادها بأسلوب يتسم بالنقد المفيد، واللغة الأدبية الساخرة؛ تلك التي تُضمر أكثر مما تُظهر أحياناً، فيها الكثير من الغنى الثقافي، والنظرات الثاقبة في الحياة، ربما أرادت من خلالها الكاتبة القول (لا) للتقليد و(نعم) للتغيير. ولإن لكل كاتبٍ طريقته في الكتابة التي تجعلنا نشعر بما يكتب فإن أريج الطيب بدت عاشقةً للاختلاف ذكية وجريئة وواقعية أيضاً وكما تقول: "... أحياناً أن نقول (لا) لمرة واحدة كفيلة بمنحنا حياة مختلفة.. لا يهم ما الذي سيترتب على قولنا كلمة (لا)، الأهم أن نكون مستعدين لتحمل مسؤولية رفضنا ومقتنعين بضرورة أن نقول (لا) مهما قال الآخرون (يجب)..". وأخيراً تتوصل الكاتبة إلى (خلاصة!) تقول فيها:
كنت أظن: أنني يجب أن أغطي عيوب وطني لأنه وطني ولأننا لا بد أن نظهر للآخرين في أبهى صورة.
واكتشفت: أن وطني صدق تلك الكذبة! وأني صدقتها أيضاً.
فتعلمت: أننا لا بد أن نخبر عن عيوبنا ونعالجها لأننا مواطنون ولأنه وطن.
من عناوين المقالات الإحدى والأربعون في هذا الكتاب نذكر: "هل تعلم؟!"، "الناس وما أدراك ما الناس؟!"، "العم إسماعيل وبيت العمر!"، "وليد مدير السوبرماركت!"، "جدتي ورائحة الوطن!"، "وتعلمت"، "مخالفات فوق القانون"، "صديقتي (بنت الرجال)!"، (...) وعناوين أخرى.
