تتسم كتابة سهام العريشي في مجموعتها القصصية المعنونة بـ «تشبهُ رائحة أمّي.. تشبه رائحة شجرَ الجنَّة» بإيحائية تعبيرية ساخرة ويتضح ذلك من خلال رصد مواقف حياتية ولحظات هاربة، فالصور تمرر بهدوء ومن خلال لعبة التكرار ضمن متوالية المكان والحدث الحكائي والصور الدالة وفضاء النص، الذي يصير هلامياً ومتفككاً، فيُشيد داخل الذات الساردة التي تسمح بأن تستحضر غيابها، وبأن تحل في مواقع أخرى، ومن شواهد هذه الحالة القصة المعنونة بـ «شجرَ الجنَّة» حيث محاولة الكاتبة تغييب الجسد إلا أنه بغيابه يصبح أكثر حضوراً من الطرف الآخر الذي هو الروح، ولولا هذا الغياب المتمثل بـ "الموت" لما كان للطرف الآخر "الروح" أي مسوغ للوجود. "أراكم منه... من السدر المخضوب الذي بقي في الإناء بعد أن غسلوني به، ومن الكافور الذي التصق بعباءة خالتي فوضعتها على كرسي وحيد خارج المنزل كي تجف. لكنني كنتُ هناك، وكنتُ أنا أيضاً أجف، وروحي تتبخرّ وتتصاعد إلى السماء لتلتصق بأول غيمة في الأفق. كنت خفيفاً ووحيداً، وكنت أرتفع عن الأرضُ كالمستحيل(...)". وهكذا تبدو الشخصية المنتقاة ميتة ولكنها تردد خبر موتها في النص، بحيث أنها تموت في الدنيا؛ لكي تعود إلى الحياة في النص المكتوب.
أما الخصائص الفنية التي تتميز بها اللغة السردية في النص فهي تشكل إطاراً متنوعاً حاضناً لأحداث شاخصة حارة ودرامية في بعض محطاتها؛ فالكاتبة تختار كلماتها وتعبيراتها بدقة بالغة وفهم حاذق، وهذا ما نجد له أكثر من تجلٍ في صياغة النص وكتابة العناوين، ومن أمثلة ذلك: " لستُ وحيدة"، "شيٌ ما.."، أشياء أريدك أن تعرفها"، "تشبهنا أقدارنا"، "هل تدرك الريحُ أن القلب دوار"، "رسائل هاربة إلى الظل"، (...) وعناوين أخرى.
