بهذه العبارات تقدم الكاتبة السعودية سارة سعد التويمي كتابها «الرجال يقتلهم اَلْحُبّ» العنوان المقتبس من إحدى مقالات الكتاب ربما اختارته الكاتبة لأن أكثر ما ينقص البشر هو (الحب)، فبحثت لهم عن أعراضه، وعلاماته، وعلله، وأسراره، وبواطنه، وأخبار نساءه ورجاله؛ ولهذا اختزلت معناه بأمثلة مقتبسة وطيدة الصلة بمفهومه بالمعنى الإنساني الشامل إذ تستحضر قول الشاعر اللاتيني "أوفيد" بقوله: "الرجال تقتلهم الكراهية والنساء يقتلهن الحب" وتُعقب على هذا الكلام بالقول: "نجد أن هذا يتنافى مع حكايات الحب والعشق المتداولة عبر الزمان والمكان والناس، فنجد الحب يعذب الرجل حتى يصبح شقيّاً خاصة إذا كانت المحبوبة بعيدة عنه، ويصعب عليه الوصول إليها، أو كانت لا تعطيه من وقتها واهتمامها، فيظل يسير وراءها آملاً متأملاً أن يحظى بها، وهذا عكس صورة الحب عند النساء، إذ أن الحب يجعلها تهتم بأنوثتها أكثر وينعشها. وتضيف الكاتبة (...) المرأة عندما تحب رجلاً فمن ذكائها أنها لا تظهر كلّ الحبّ دفعة واحدة، بل تخفي بعضه، وتتفن في إظهار بعضه لِما فيه مصلحة لها...".
