"أفيقوا يا رعاة ويا رعية، علام نساق في شر البلية، تساورنا الشكوك ولا نبالي، بأي ظلامة نلقي القضيّة، تعاقبنا الحياة على رؤانا، فليس لمد ناظرنا رويّه، نخوض بحار عالمنا تباعاً، كلاماً دون أشرعة فتيه... صغار الغصن صامدة تغني، وريح الأرض عاصفة قوية وأشجار تباد من الرزايا، كبار الجذع تصرعها المنية، وأرض الشوك يحصدها التمني ونفح الزهر في غرف عصيه... نجونا من حساب النفس يوماً، أننجو من حسابات عليّه! وخلنا أننا في السلم نحيا حياة لا تجيء بها أذيّه، فأخطأ نخبة الألباب فينا، لأن سلامنا قتل وديه". ديوان (نهض الحجر) أصداء إحساس عميق، نبض قلب مرهف لإنسان لم توقفه هموم مهنته عن الإحساس بهموم أمته، كلماته التي تشع وطنية وحباً لأهله في الأرض السليبة تقدم لنا صورة من صور إيمان المسلم بخالقه وارتباطه بدينه كعقيدة راسخة لا تهزها المحن العابرة التي واجهتها أمتنا على مر السنين.
