في هذا الكتاب نصوص اتخذت أطواراً مختلفة، لم يأت لونها الأدنى على نسق واحد، بل على ألوان شتى، تبعاً لأحوال الكتابة ومدارجها. وفي هذا سيجد القارئ تفسيمها لهذه التجربة على أطوار أربعة: أولها: أطياف النشأة الأولى، وفيه حكاية طفل ينمو داخل مزيج من تراب رطب، وفتوة عابثة، وفطرة شغوفة بالحرف والنقطة. يظهر المكان ممتلئاً بالبرية الخضراء، ومنازل الكلس العتيقة، والناس البسطاء، كسلطان من الكلمات لا ينازع. مضيت في ثنايا المكان لأقطف منه بعضاً مما فيه. ولقارئ الرحلة أن يلاحظ أمكنة بسيطة استدرجتني، فأتت شواهد اللغة على شاكلتها، بسيطة مجردة من أي افتعال. ثانيها: استئناف الوصل، وفيه تسجيل للمسافة الآخذة في التوسع بين مسقط الرأس والهجران المفتوح على أمكنة لا تحد. ثالثها: تقاطيع الفصل، وفيه توصيف للرحلة التي أفضت إلى الانفصال عن تلك الأمكنة المألوفة، والأوقات المألوفة. والناس المألوفين، حتى الأهل -كما بينت الكلمات- صاروا نزلاء المنطقة الرمادية، حتى إذا بلغ الشوق إليهم ذروته، سعيت إليهم سعي الظمآن إلى الماء البارد. رابعها: أطياف النشأة التالية، وفيه دخول في فضاء آخر، حيث تجيء الكلمات مترصدة أحوال الداخل، أحوال النفس كما ت قلبها ريح السنين التي مضت، والسنين التي لم تمض بعد. في هذا المدرج الأحوال نحو سؤال الحياة والموت، أو نحو نزوعات الذات وأهوائها. إنه مدرج مشرع على الأشياء والألوان والكلمات كلها.
