كان أهم تحول في مشوار التصوير الضوئي مرتبطاً بالخروج من لحظة الحلم. بالخروج من ذلك الثقب الضيق الذي كان يمرر الضوء ليعكس صور الأشياء كما كان يعكس نوايا الإنسان الأول في اكتشاف الصور الضوئية من أول ظل على جدران الكهوف إلى انكسارات الضوء واكتشاف الغرف المظلمة.
فقبل أن توجد قواعد ومقاييس التصوير الضوئي التي عرفناها في مطلع القرن التاسع عشر وجد الإنسان المشغول بالضوء وانعكاساته والحالم بتثبيت صورته على جدران الحياة.
يختلف الدارسون في تحديد نقطة الابتداء للإرهاصات الأولى لفكرة التصوير الضوئي، لكن ما يعنينا هو اتفاقهم على وجود الفكرة في حيز الحلم في تاريخ الإنسانية السحيق.
ما بين الحلم والواقع جسر طويل اجتازته فكرة التصوير قبل أن تحظى بأول جهاز للتصوير مع بداية القرن التاسع عشر ذلك الجهاز الذي كنا انتظرنا ولادته في عالم الفيزياء والبصريات فجاءتنا أخباره من مختبرات الكيمياء.
كيمياء سخية دخلنا معها بداية إلى لحظة الأبيض والأسود عبر خليط الأملاح والمستحلبات والمرشحات قبل أن نقف على تخوم اللون في النصف الأول من القرن العشرين.
هذا الكتاب يتتبع (تحولات الصورة) والبدايات الأولى لتاريخ عملية إدراك الصورة والدراسات التي تناولت فن الرسم والتصوير الفوتوغرافي بوصفها لغة، لها قواعدها ونماذجها وروادها (صانعوها) رواد التصوير وأعمالهم الفوتوغرافية كما يطرح المؤلف من خلاله أسئلة تتعلق بالتصاميم وعلاقة الصورة بالرسم والنحت، وعلاقة العين بما ترى وما لا ترى من الصورة الفوتوغرافية.. وغيرها من تقنيات الصورة الحديثة اليوم؛ ويجادل كغيره حول ما إذا كانت الصورة الفوتوغرافية من أشكال الفن!
