إن ما بين دفتي هذا الكتاب هو محاولة جادة من مؤلفه الأستاذ "رياض الجرعي" للإجابة على تلك الأسئلة الآنفة الذكر، أو على الأقل الاقتراب من الإجابة، وهو محاولة أيضاً لإدراك مفهوم الجمال والتعلق به روحياً ووجدانياً وفهمه فهماً فلسفياً. على اعتبار أن الإحساس بالجمال أمر فطري في كل إنسان، ولا يتفرد به الفنانون أو متذوقوا الجمال وحدهم.
والإعجاب بالجمال دائم مستمر، والنفس البشرية بطبيعتها تميل له وتهفو إليه حيث وجد، وتشتاق إليه كلما غاب أو ذهب، وباختفاء الجمال أو انعدامه قد يتحول الإنسان إلى ذلك الوحش المخيف كما يصفه شكسبير ويحذر منه أحد تلامذته بقوله: "إحذر من ذاك فإنه لا يتذوق الجمال".
