تسرد الرواية أحداثا تتعلق بشخصية "وائل"، وائل هو بطل الرواية تم قبوله في الوظيفة العمومية كأستاذ لمادة اللغة العربية، ولم يبق له من الإجراءات ليلتحق بالتكوين والتدريب في المركز الجهوي لمهن التربية والتكوين ليصبح أستاذا إلا أن يقوم بالتسجيل بشهاداته الجامعية في المركز، لكن تأتي العقدة هنا في هذه الرواية لتعقد الأمور، وهي أن وائل سُرقت منه شهاداته.
تتطور الحبكة الدرامية للأحداث:
فبعد أن علم وائل بسرقة شهاداته الجامعية التي بدونها لا يمكن أن يتم قبوله في المركز الجهوي، يُخبر مدير المركز بذلك فيعطيه مهلة عشرة أيام للتسجيل بالمركز وإلا سيتم حذف اسمه من قائمة الناجحين ودعوة أول من يتواجد في لائحة الانتظار.
شهادات وائل قُدر لها أن يحصل عليها أول من يتواجد اسمه في لائحة الانتظار في تخصص وائل نفسه، ولما علم ذلك الشخص أنها تخصُّ من له نفس تخصصه تركها عنده حتى تنتهي مدة المهلة ويحصل هو على المنصب.
بعد معاناة وائل ودخوله السجن لأنه تعرض لمؤامرة، بعدها سيخرج وائل وستتعاون أغلب شخصيات الرواية ليردوا لوائل حقه، وبينهم فتاة أحبها حبا عفيفا ولم يُصرح لها بذلك، وهي كذلك كان شعورها.
