لطالما شبّه الشعراء المحبوبة بالمهرة، في قصائدٍ تغني نفسها بنفسها، ولكن لماذا (مهرة)؟ لماذا تشخيص الحبيبة بهذه التسمية وهذه الصفة؟ هنا يكمن السّر والدلالة. فالمهرة التي تقدمها الشاعرة نعيمة الكعبي تظهر كمكمّل دلالي يحقق التشابه الثنائي بين طبيعة المرأة وطبيعة المهرة أرادتها الشاعرة حسب وظيفة العنوان – العتبة – مفتاح النص الذي يربط القارئ بنسيجه الداخلي وهو لدى الشاعرة يحمل مركب الكينونة الباطنية لحقيقة الذات/ الشاعرة وقدرتها على خلق توليفات جديدة تستطيع تمثيل المعاني تمثيلاً جديداً ومبتكراً.تحت عنوان (المُهرة الأصيلة) تعلن الشاعرة ثورتها على المألوف "العشق الحسي" على لسان الرجل/ الآخر المساوي والمكمل للمرأة فتقول: "مهرتي/ صدقيني أنا انتهيت/ فتلك المشاعر تفتك بي/ تنازلي/ تصارعني لكي أتركِ/ وتستولي هي عليّ/ لكنها لا تعلم من تكونين/ لا تُدرك أنكِ المُهرة الأصيلة/ الأولى والأخيرة في حياتي/ الأنثى الفريدة من نوعها وسط فؤادي/ الحب الوحيد الجريء الذي يجري في وريدي وشرياني".يضم الكتاب قصائد في الشعر العربي الحديث ومقطوعات نثرية جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: "لعنةُ حبك"، "المُهرة الأصيلة"، "في أعماقك"، "تلك الغريبة"، "صدفة"، "أحبكِ"، "الكتابة بوصفكِ"، "أميرة الزمرد الأحمر"، "فرار"، "شموخ"، "عتمة دهاليزكِ"، "شيء من الحب"، (...) وعناوين أخرى.
