يتوجه هذا الكتاب لجميع المهتمين بميدان "علم النفس" وهو يمثل مرجعاً شاملاً للموضوعات الأساسية التي تهم كل دارس لهذا الميدان، وبشكل عام يتألف هذا الكتاب من عشرة فصول، يستعرض الفصل الأول موضوع علم النفس، وأهدافه، وطرائقه، ويقدم لمحة تاريخية سريعة الفصل الأول موضوع علم النفس، وأهدافه، وطرائقه، ويقدم لمحة تاريخية سريعة عن تطوره، كما يعرض أهميته وصلته بالعلوم الأخرى، ويقدم عرضاًَ لأهم المدارس النفسية، أما الفصول التسعة الأخرى في الكتاب فتعالج بعض الموضوعات المهمة ذات العلاقة بهذا العلم. إذ يعالج الفصل الثاني مفردات دوافع السلوك وبيان أنواعها...، ويصور الفصل الثالث الوجدانيات والحياة الانفعالية إلى جانب الاتجاهات النفسية، أما الفصل الرابع فيتطرق لموضوع التعلم وأهم القضايا المرتبطة به، أما الفصول الأربعة التالية فتعرض موضوعات تتعلق بالمعرفة والعمليات العقلية، يبدأها الفصل الخامس بتناوله مثل الانتباه، يليه الفصل السادس الذي يعالج عملية التذكر ومصاحباتها المتعددة بما في ذلك عملية النسيان، ويشتمل الفصل السابع على موضوع التفكير إذ يحوي الفروق الفردية والذكاء وما يتصل به من موضوعات كالإعاقة العقلية. ويأتي الفصل التاسع ليعالج موضوع الشخصية ومفهومها ونظرياتها وقياسها وأهمية تكاملها، وتكون الخاتمة بالفصل العاشر الذي يعرض لموضوع الصحة النفسية والعلاج النفسي فيتناول أهم المفردات التي تساعد في بلوغ الشخصية السليمة والصحيحة نفسياً. واستكمالاً للفائدة المتوخاة، فقد حرص على أن يعقب كل فصل من هذه الفصول أسئلة للمراجعة تختص بالفصل المعني وبما يرسخ المادة المطروقة في الفصل عند الإجابة على أسئلته.
