يقول الكاتب: "نحن هنا بصدد أن نفسح المجال لتلك العطور أن تقول كلمتها في عالمنا الخاص، تركنا القول والفعل كثيراً لأنفسنا، حتى كان قولاً طائراً في عالم آخر غير الذي نحياه، وكان فعلاً في كوكب بعيد لم تلمسه قلوبنا، لذلك فتأثير العطور فينا أقوى من أي شيء آخر في عالم الفكر الحديث. (...) سنتناول العطور من جهة تأثيرها على حياة الناس، فكرياً ونفسياً وعاطفياً، فكل ناحية لها دور كبير في مجريات الحياة، قد تكون للأفضل، وقد تكون للأسوأ، وذلك من خلال ما يختاره الشخص لنفسه من روائح تناسب شخصيته".
من هنا يحلّل الكاتب لك العطور إلى تركيبات صغيرة، ويقوم بمزج كل تركيبة مع ما يشابهها من صفات البشر، ثم عليك اختيار التركيبات التي تناسب شخصيتك في زجاجة عطر لك وحدك.
أريج زجاجة العطر التي تتنسّمها كل يوم، وعبير الزهور في البساتين، ليست وحدها روائح الحياة، فهناك روائح معنوية، وروائح حسية، كل نوع له أصنافه التي سيتناولها هذا الكتاب.
