يقدم الروائي "هالفدان و. فريهو Halfdan W. Freihow" رواية مدهشة، ومشوقة في آن، هي حكاية خاصة، لا تشبه بقية الحكايات، أبطالها أب وابنه، سمّاها "عزيزي غابرييل Dear Gabriel". تخبرنا هذه الرواية عن علاقة حب مفعمة بين أب وابنه المصاب بمرض التوحد، عبر وصف العلاقة بينهما في محطات متعددة يستحضرها الأب في ذاكرته يوماً بعد آخر، في محاولته مساعدة ابنه تخطي التحديات الاجتماعية والذهنية التي تواجهه. وهنا يحضر الروائي باستخدامه أسلوب السرد الذاتي أو ما سمي الرواية التي تقول سيرتها عارضاً للقارئ تفاصيل الحالة وتأثيراتها. وسيجد كل مهتم بالعلاقات الأسرية وخاصة حين يصيب المرض أحد الأبناء. ومرض التوحد بشكل خاص، كم ستساعدهم الحوارات والأفكار التي يطرحها فريهو وفي وصفه الأمين للعلاقة مع ابنه، موازناً ما بين الإحباط والخوف، وفي بعض الأحيان الشعور الرهيب بعدم الأمان مع الفرح والانتصار. يقول الأب في رسالته إلى ابنه "ما من أحد يستطيع أن يرى نفسه أو يفهم نفسه وحيداً، من دون مسافة ما. لذا أريد أن أخبرك عنا، عن حياتنا، عن المشاكل التي تواجهها، والتي ربما لن نكون قادرين دوماً على مساعدتك فيها (...) فكرت في أن هذا ربما كان خطيراً، ذلك أنه من حين إلى آخر يكون في مستطاع المرء أن يغمض عينيه وأن يأمل زوال الأذى حين يفتحهما من جديد...". إنه اعتراف مؤثر، وعميق لحالة إنسانية خاصة نقرأها بشكل رسالة موجهة من أب إلى ابنه المريض، وعبر نص شيق مشوب بالكثير من الحب والفخر. يصف "هالفدان و. فريهو" علاقة حب معقدة مشبعة بسوء الفهم أحياناً ولكنها مدعمة بحب غير مشروط بينهما دائماً. "الوحدة"، "الحب" أسئلة هامة تطرحها رواية "عزيزي غابرييل" فهل يمكن لأحدنا أن يكون كياناً منعزلاً وهو في حالة حب؟
