في هذا الكتاب دراسة نقدية حول الأجناس الأدبية تسلط الضوء على ثلاث دراسات للكاتبين المعروفين فيصل درّاج ومحمد دكروب والتي جاءت بعنوان "أسرار ساعة الرمل وظلك الدليل والمرآة أنا".
وعن كتابه هذا يقول فركوح: "قصة طويلة أم رواية قصيرة!؟ النقاش الذي اجترح هذين التصنيفين لم يصل، بتوفيقيته وحلوله الوسط والتركيبية، إلى سبر غور ذلك الجنس الأدبي الذي يحاول الإشارة إليه (إن كان جنساً مستقلاً خارجاً عن الأنواع فعلاً) بل قارب بين تخوم جنسين في تداخل يزيد الإرباك، ويفاقم الالتباس، ويشوش العلاقة بين الأجناس.
ومن هنا، فإن إعادة النشر هذه، لا تهدف إلى مجرد التذكير بأعمال سابقة؛ ولكنها محاولة للمساهمة في نقاش متقطع، يخفت حيناً ويتصاعد حيناً، حول الأجناس الأدبية، من خلال إعادة وضع النصر، المختلف على جنسه، يرسم التفكير النقدي المهتم بالتجنيس الأدبي، وتبتغي على وجه التحديد إعادة طرح السؤال المؤجل: قصة طويلة أم رواية قصيرة!؟
في الوقت نفسه، لا تستبعد هذه المحاولة الإمكانية الثالثة الموجودة، أصلاً، للتعاطي مع هذه النصوص بدون الإضافات التصنيفية، وهذا ما يرمي إليه إدراج بعض الدراسات النقدية التي تناولت هذين العملين منفردين. وبمعزل عن إشكالية التجنيس الأدبي؛ وبالتالي.. بعيداً عن أسئلته!".
