بلغة تجمع بين المعيش والمكتوب، بين الحياة والنص، يحيلنا الروائي السعودي "محمد خضر" إلى مشهد يتداخل فيه العبث واللاجدوى في عالم متغير يرصد من خلاله حياة رجل غريب يدعى أبو عديس يعيش حياة الفقر والجهل والحرمان، ويبحث عن مكان آمن يلوذ به فيدله العابرون على "إربة" تلك البادية الضائعة بين الجبال والتي بقيت آلاف السنين لم تتغير ولم تتبدل. وهناك يلتقي بـ "زيانة" وينقذها من الأسر بعد أن عرف قصتها الشائكة، وتعيش معه لعام كامل مختبئة مما يسبب له الكثير من المتاعب، تلك المتاعب التي واجهها كذلك في استقبال الناس له كغريب، ولكن سرعان ما بدأ يكتشف هذا المكان ويصبح فاعلاً في أهم قضاياه التي عرفت بها "إربة" من أزمنة تاريخية طويلة. يسرد خضر تفاصيلها ويعود بنا إلى الوراء آلاف السنوات، وهكذا ومن خلال أصحاب الوشم وقصتهم الغريبة في "إربة" وشيخ إربة الذي رحل أثناء وجود أبو عديس والعراد ذلك الشخص الذي أصبح صديقاً لأبي عديس.. تهرب زيانة مخالفة كل التوقعات إلى جدة، وبعد أن اكتشف أمرها تتشابك أحداث الرواية ليصبح من الصعب التنبؤ بمصيرها وتظل سؤالاً حائراً لا إجابة محددة لها... هي رواية الإنسان وكفاحه مع مصير مجهول مليء بالتشرد والفقر في عالم تحكمه بعض الأعراف والعادات، هو عالم مغيب، مسحوق أناسه بعيدون عن الحضارة، مهمشون.. فالعراد بائع الفحم وبشير وحماره الأسود والعين الحارة والبوادي المجاورة صورة من عالم ما وراء الجدران كتب عنه محمد خضر باحثاً عن أجوبة برسم إجابات لا تجيب؟
