"هذه الرواية مجرد حلم، يجول في خاطر كلّ طفل فلسطينّي، وكل إنسان يؤمن بأحقية رجوع الفلسطينيين إلى ديارهم، هو حلم جميل، أتمنى فعلاً أن يأتي ذلك اليوم الذي نسطّر فيه ملاحم الانتصار". هذا ما تقوله فاطمة الفردان عن روايتها «السوسنة السوداء» ليشكل كلامها الملامح الأولى لعمل روائي يتخذ من حياة الانسان الفلسطيني واقعاً يجسده على الورق والروائية تفعل ذلك من خلال رصد حياة عائلة فلسطينية أثناء العدوان الاسرائيلي الأخير على غزة، بطلة الرواية هي رغد التي اعتقلت الشرطة الإسرائيلية والدها العقيد مازن ولتصبح الفتاة بين يوم وليلة تائهة بين زخم من الأوجاع "بيت متهدم وأمٌ ميتة وأخٌ قابع في قبره وآخر يتنفس بواسطة الأجهزة وأبٌ في غياهب السجون..."، إلاّ أن إرادة الحياة كانت الأقوى، تستمر رغد تقاوم بالعلم وبالحبّ حتى تتخرج طبيبة وها هي الآن تعتلي منصة جامعة القدس.. في حفل تخرجها من كلّية الطبّ في الذكرى السنوية للنكبة... والجميع يصفق لنجاحها...من أجواء الرواية نقرأ:"وردة غيّرت مجرى حياتهما، إنها وردة ولكنها أثمن من عقد ألماس أو خاتم ذهب، ربما ليس للهدايا قيمة ما لم تكن من القلب، فيما الهدايا التي تأتي بحب تكون لها نكهة مميزة حتى لو كانت بسيطة.كانت جالسة كزهرة سوسنٍ منحنية، تحدّق إلى تلك النافذة حيث زهرة السوسن السوداء تقف شامخة داخل مزهرية مليئة بالماء، شامخة رغم انحنائها، لكنها قصيرة العمر كحال الشعب الفلسطيني. إنّ جمال النبتة الآسر يخفي قوتها، وقدرتها على تحمل شتى الظروف البيئية القاسية والصمود، وبزوغها من بين الصخور وفي الأودية والتلال..".
