"ثمة سحب كثيفة في السماء تحمل أسراراً وخيوطاً وكلمات واشارات، أمطرت ضوءاً لم يره أحد ولم يفهمه أحد. كانت ألغازاً تائهة ترقب كل شئ. كل صغيرة وكبيرة. وكان بَصّاصْ لا يفهم معنى الإشارات ولم يفكر يوماً في التأمل فيها. لا وقت لشئ اسمه التأمل أو التفكير سوى في الأسفل. لم ينظر يوماً الى السماء لأنه اعتاد دوماً النظر الى الأسفل.
وفي وسط قسنطينة في ذاك الحي «زلّومة» فتاة يهودية شقراء. جسدها ممشوق كعود نديّ، لحمها أبيض ناصع في ضيائه. تثير بدلعها وغنجها رجال الحي. انثى تعرف جيداً مكامن قوتها الخارقة في جسد يتوأه بكل تضاريس ليفجّر بركان الرغبة".
