ذاك هو السرّ الذي تسعى إلى كشفه هذه الرواية التي تقول لقارئها أن الحبّ والسلطة، لا يجتمعا فواحد عليه التنحي وإلا سقط الآخر. وأن الإنسان مهما أوتي من خبرات يبقى في حاجة إلى شيء آخر يتعلمه من الحياة.
هي قصة جوليا الفتاة التي دّق قلبها لرجلين عاشت روحاهما على عذابها! وبقيت عالقة بين قبول أحدهما ورفض الآخر، فهناك شيء ضائع داخلها، ستجده أخيراً، ولكن بعد فوات الأوان!!
إن نموذج المرأة في «لَستُ قدّيسة» استثنائي، إنها امرأة نجحت في الوصول إلى سقف الأنوثة وسقف السياسة إلى حد تتساوى – تحته - الرغبة والطموح والأمل وتستحيل – فوقه – معقولية الواقع والحلم والمُثل.
من أجواء الرواية نقرأ:
"أجابته بهدوء: "إنه الخوف وليس الحب يا كريم".
اقترب كريم منها والغضب يكاد يمزق روحه المترنحة: "وهل استيقظ إحساسك بموت أشرف الحي يا جوليا؟". فقالت جوليا وهي تشيح بوجهها عنه: "لا أدري، وكف عن التصرف بهوجائية منذ أن عدنا، كل ما حدث كان مجرد رد فعل ضمن الحدود والمكان لا أكثر". صرخ كريم غاضباً "عناق، ثم قبلة، ثم غياب عن الوجود، كان رد فعل ضمن الحدود والمكان يا جوليا" صمت قليلاً ثم اقترب منها وقال: "هل تعتقدين أنني بت ساذجاً إلى هذا الحد يا سيدة جوليا؟!". فقالت جوليا بوجه تغطيه قطرات المياه المتساقطة من شعرها المبتل: "لستَ ساذجاً، ولستُ قديسة، فالحب ليس مجرد محاولات، بل هو أفعال ترسي فوق نفوسنا تاركة الأثر".
