"سادتي القراء الأفاضل، عندما أروي لكم حكايتي التي عشتها بينكم وكنتم أنتم أبطالها بالدرجة الأولى، وحيث أنكم تعتمدون العشيرة والدين والنوع واللون والمعتقد والجنس، لذلك سمحت لنفسي باستخدام كلمات تتماهى مع أفكاركم ومعتقداتكم من مثل (ابن عمي) و(من عشيرتي) و(من جماعتنا) و(من ربعنا) و(غريب) و(من غير ملة)، رغم تحفظي الشديد على استعمال هذه المفردات. فنحن حمير الله في الأرض كلنا أخوة، وكل حمار يمشي على أربع هو (من ربعنا) و(من عشيرتنا)، ونحن عشيرة واحدة وملّة واحدة كما أخبرتكم".
هذا ما يقوله «حمار صادق» عن بني جنسه الحمير، وأما عن بني جنسنا نحن البشر فتقول الرواية: أن حياتنا بكل تفاصيلها ومنعطفاتها ليست سوى عربة يجرها حمار مريض ويقودها رجل مشلول.. هكذا يعبّر أحمد بطل الرواية وراويها الوهمي الذي عهد إليه الروائي "أحمد حسن العطية" بتقديم أبطال قصته حسب درجة أهميتهم وأدوارهم في الحياة، وليحكي لنا كل واحد منهم دوره في القصة. وإذا كنا لا نستغرب تقديمه الحمار (أصيل) على نفسه، فلأن صاحبه اكتشف متأخراً أنه أهم كائن مرّ في حياته، فهو المسؤول الأول عن توفير لقمة الخبز له ولعائلته الفقيرة، وتحمّل مسؤولية إطعامهم مع الخال صادق المشلول في زمن تساقط فيه الرجال، وعجزوا عن توفير لقمة الخبز لعائلاتهم.
إن المزاوجة بين عناصر غير متوقعة في الرواية، هي غالباً مناسبة للهزل من - كليشهات الواقع - واضحاً كان أم خفيّاً. في «حمار صادق» يتقاسم البطولة الحمير والبشر لوصف ما يحدث في مجتمعات الفقر والفطرة، والإصرار على بلوغ الهدف، هنا في هذه الرواية سندرك ما الفرق بيننا وبين الحمير. فمنا من يحرق ويقتل كل صوت ينادي بالعلم والتعليم ويعشق الحروب والتدمير. والحمار ساند وساعد الإنسان منذ ولد في بناء الحضارة الإنسانية على ظهره...
شيء ما يشبه الأسر تصنعه هذه الرواية بقارئها... تماماً، مثل ورطةٍ لذيذةٍ لا يريدها أن تنتهي.
