يُعلن جابر التمرد على الجميع ويترك بلده راغباً في رحلة نقاهة برية حول العالم، والوجهة ريو دي جانيرو، حيث الحياة المجنونة المنفتحة، والمهرجانات الفنية الممتدة على طول البلاد وعرضها، وهناك التقاها، إنها "سارة" الفتاة البرتغالية الثائرة التي تُخفي عن ماضيها أكثر مما تُعلن... يُغرم بها جابر ويدخل معها فصلاً جديداً في حياته، فيتزوجها تاركاً كلّ ما له علاقة بالماضي في بلاده، ولأنه عاشق للرياضة، وتسلّق الجبال، يقرر أن يعيش معها جنوناً من نوع آخر، جنون السرعة والسيارات الرياضية، والسير باتجاه القمم العالية...
ودون وعي منه قتل زوجته، هكذا أخبروه بعدما أفاق من غيبوبة، على أثر حادث مروع، خسر معه حب حياته، ليكتشف لاحقاً أن "سارة" لم تمت في الحادث، بل كان موتها مدبّراً بطريقة فنية كي يبدو كحادث وأنه قد وقع ضحية مكيدة.
«مرّتْ، وكأنها نبضة» رؤية إبداعية جديدة للكاتبة إيمان عبد الرؤوف تدور في عالم الجريمة الغامضة، أو في عالم "صناعة الموت" مليئة، بالشوق، الوجع، الخيانة، الغضب، والحقائق المثيرة للدهشة..
من أجواء الرواية نقرأ:
"يستيقظ من الموت فيجد نفسه في غرفة بيضاء... إلى درجة ظن أن ما يلفه هو قماش الكفن الأبيض... ثم يفهم أنه نجا... نجا من الحادث اللعين، بينما هي فنيت...
انتهت القصة قبل أن تبدأ...
قُتلت بجريرته وهو عاش... أي قبح في هذه القصة جُمع من أردان العالم كله، وتكوم ليحكي حكايته...
"تذكّر دوماً أنك السبب لِنَصِلَ إليها... تذكّر أنك أنت السبب لتنتهي... فكّر بالماضي وصِل لسبب قتلها... وعلى كل حال سنتركك لمصيرك... هي ميتة الآن، لكن أنت سَتُتْرَك لتقرّر الصدف مصيرك... فقط فكّر...".
