في روايتها «الفيصل» تطرح الكاتبة خلود أحمد تساؤلات عالم الطفولة من داخل النص الروائي؛ لذلك يُمكن اعتبارها نموذجاً لرواية الأسئلة، بما تمتلكه من إمكانات أسلوبية ثرة، وبما توليه من أهمية لهذه الفئة العمرية ومحاولة تقديم الأجوبة الشافية لتساؤلاتها. «الفيصل» تجيب عن تساؤلات طفل بدأت وهو لم يتعدّ الأربع سنوات بعد، بدأت بفكرة أنهُ كيف ولد؟ من أين أتى؟ وكيف تكوّن؟ وكيف سيكون؟ هكذا كبُرت الفكرة وتحولت إلى أسئلة، يسعى صاحبها لإيجاد أجوبةٍ عنها وكلما كبر؛ كبرت أسئلته حول: الموت، الولادة، اختلاف الذكر عن الأنثى، لماذا بعض النساء تغطي وجهها وأُخريات لا؟ ما هو معنى العقيدة؟ ما هو معنى الشرع؛ ولماذا حُلِّلَ للرجال الزواج بأربع؟ وعندما لم يجد الجواب الشافي عن طريق والديه، لجأ إلى عمه الطبيب المثقف الذي أدى جميع واجباته تجاه أسئلة فيصل الصغير الذي سيكبر ويحب ويتزوج وينجب، ويحقق حلمه بكتابة روايته (الفيصل) بشخوصها وفصولها؛ كي يستفيد منها في تربية ابنه... من أجواء الرواية نقرأ: "– ماما.. ماذا يوجد بداخل بطنك؟ - طفل جميل سيكون لك أخاً.. - وكيف ستخرجيه؟ - تضغط الطبيبة على بطني فينفجر مثل البالونة، ويخرج أخوك وهو يضحك. "يغيب الطفل.. يحايل أخته ابنة العامين تلك، ويحاول اصطيادها.. وكالفريسة، ينقض عليها ويضغط على بطنها، يحاول إخراج أخٍ آخر ظاناً بأنه سيفرح والدته.. وفي لحظة.. تنزف ابنة العامين وتغيب عن الوعي حتى الفناء!..". لذا.. كانت (الفيصل) لتنقذ بها طفلاً".
