إنها قصة تزاحم أحفاد جنكيزخان على اعتلاء عرش إمبراطورية الخان، من تنصيب غويوك بن أوجيدي خانا، إلى حملة تأديب ابن عمه باتو، وصولاً إلى اعتلاء مونغ العرش، ذلك الخان الذي تصرف كأب مع إخوته كوبلاي وهولاكو وإريك بوك، وتقاسم معهم الحكم ورعاهم، وكجد عندما سار على خطوات جنكيزخان، ولكن القدر قال كلمته بشأن أمة المغول، قُتل مونغ، وعاد الصراع مجدداً على العرش.
إننا نقرأ قصة قلَّ نظيرها في التاريخ، سعى فيها جنكيزخان وأولاده وأحفاده إلى تغيير العالم وغيّروه فعلاً، ولكن ما من أحد استطاع تغيير التاريخ إلى الأبد.
تختصر هذه الجملة التي قالها أحد أحفاد جنكيز خان لأخيه، نظرة خانات المغول للسلطة: "لقد كنتُ صاحب الحق، والآن فالحق للقوي والمنتصر". في هذه الرواية، كلما ظننا أن صاحب الحق امتلكه، سنرى أنه سيؤول للأقوى بعده، وسيصبح هو صاحب الحق.
