أن تولد بلا هوية يعني إنك ولدت متورطاً بحياتك.. بهذا الصنيع السردي المتميز تثير الكاتبة ريم البنا في روايتها «بِلا مظلّة» سؤال الهوية؛ فتؤكد بلباقة فنية عالية أن الفكر ما يزال قابعاً تحت سطوة الموروثات الثقافية التي تؤمن بفكرة الإقصاء اجتماعياً لفئة غير محددي الجنسية "البدون" لتبدو الرواية بمثابة مراجعة نقدية، ومحاكمة روائية للقوانين التي تقوم على أساس العادات الموروثة وليس على أساس الحقوق المدنية المشروعة.
تصور الرواية حياة شاب ينتمي لفئة "غير محددي الجنسية" اضطر بعد وفاة والده وهو لم يتم من العمر عشر سنوات أن يمتهن أعمال حرمته طفولته لكي يساعد أمه ويخفف عنها عملها في الخياطة، وعندما بلغ ونال شهادة الثانوية بامتياز لم يستطع إكمال دراسته، وظلّ يهيم على وجهه باحثاً عن عمل. فأن تكون بلا هوية في هذه الحياة يعني أنه ليس من حقك أن تطمح للمستقبل وأن تتعلم، فبعد أن كان حلمه دراسة الطب في الجامعة، لم يجد رضا سوى جامعة الشارع بانتظاره، جامعة الأرصفة والطرقات التي يبيع فيها الفاكهة والخضروات دون تصريح. حتى عندما شارك غيره من الشباب في اسعاف المرضى أثناء حرب الخليج لم تكرّمه الدولة كغيره، لأنه ليس مواطناً. كانت هذه الكلمة كالنصل في خاصرته دائماً، ولا يستطيع انتزاعها "أنت يا رضا غير مواطن". تتوالى الأحداث في الرواية حتى تُصالحه الحياة بحبه وزواجه لـ "نور" المواطنة، فدخولها لحياته كان بمثابة اعتذار الحياة له، عن كل ما تسببت له ولعائلته من آلام... ولكن هل ستكمل الحياة عطاءها أم أن ما تعطيه بكف تأخذه بالآخر؟
تنتهي الرواية بسؤال هام: من المتسبب في خلق فئة مُجرَّدة من الحياة؟ ثمة تساؤلات كثيرة في هذه الحياة، لا إجابة واضحة عليها، سوى عدم اكتراث الإنسان للإنسان.
