إن ما يجعل الحياة لحظة خارقة، هو وعي كل إنسان لحضوره فيها، حضور التكامل ، والامتلاء بالجمال، وثراء الحياة، بكل أبعادها ومفاهيمها، وكتاب (متاهات.. اتباع الآخرين دون تمعن طريق للمتاهات) للكاتبة السعودية "روان سليمان الجميل" لا يندّ عن هذا السياق، يمكن قرائته كحصيلة من النوع النقدي المستند إلى خلفية معرفية وثقافية امتازت بها الكاتبة في مقاربة الحياة أو نص الحياة.

إن تطوير الذات جزء من تقدم المجتمعات. ولّما كان الشخص يعتبر جزءاً من مجتمعه فكل ما يحمله الشخص من أفكار ومعتقدات هو بمثابة تمثيل لمجتمعه. فعندما ترغب أيها القارئ بتطوير ذاتك تذكّر أنك ستقوم بدور مجتمع بأكمله. وبناء على مجموع ما يقوم به الأفراد من تطوير لذواتهم سيكون المجتمع إما مجتمعاً متقدماً بثقافته وفكره ومعتقداته، وإما مجتمعاً يحمل معتقدات باطلةً ليس لها أي مرجع...".
وتقول في مكان آخر من الكتاب "إن تطوير ذواتنا، بالرغم من ارتباطه بنا، إلا أن له دوراً كبيراً في تقدم مجتمعنا أو تراجعه. وهذا الكتاب يحتوي على معتقدات باطلة يعتقد أشخاص مثلنا ومثل من حولنا أنها صحيحة نتيجة تداولها. ما نسعى إليه في هذا الكتاب هو أن نثبت عدم صوابية هذه المعتقدات لنساهم برقي المجتمع وتطوره بشخصياتنا وثقافتنا وفكرنا الذي يعتبر أساس المجتمع".
