يتسائل المؤلف في المقدمة التي يفتتح بها كتابه: فمن يُعلِم ماذا سيعلم وماذا سيترك؟! ولأن يتعلم الطالب أن يصطاد المعرفة بنفسه لاشك خير وأبقى من أن نصطادها نحن ونقدمها له في طبق على مائدة العلم، فيعافها حيناً ويتناولها على مضض حين آخر!
في ضوء ما سبق سيجد القارئ في هذا الكتاب تجارب وأفكاراً تهدف كلها للتأكيد على أهمية التعلم، وتقدم حلولاُ، لعلها تسهم في ترسيخ مفهوم التعلم وأهميته، وقد قدّمت – والكلام للمؤلف – لكل منها بقصة أو حادثة حقيقية، إما وقعت أمامي مباشرة أو رواها لي من أثق به من رفقاء الدرب، وهو درب طويل قد قارب العشرين سنة، سبع سنوات منها معلماً لمادة الفيزياء، وبقية تلك السنوات مشرفاً تربوياً للعلوم والفيزياء ما أتاح لي فرصة زيارة المئات من الصفوف الدراسية والاحتكاك بالمئات من المعلمين والاطلاع على عشرات الأساليب التدريسية، وأخيراً الانضمام للمدربين المركزيين لمشروع تطوير الرياضيات والعلوم وكل هذه التجارب قد ولّدت لديّ قناعة راسخة لا تتزعزع بأهمية التعليم وهي رسالة هذا الكتاب.
