بين يدي القارئ كتاب "الثورة الرومنسية" للأكاديمي البريطاني تيم بلانينغ أستاذ التاريخ بجامعة كمبردج الصادر بالإنكليزية سنة 2010، نقله إلى العربية عبد الودود العمراني كونه مرجعاً تاريخياً وأدبياً وفنياً فائق الأهمية.
يعد هذا الكتاب مقاربة للإبداعات الفنية المختلفة جذرياً والتي أنتجت المسلمات الجمالية للعالم الحديث، هي محاولة لكتابة التاريخ العام للرومانسية تشتمل قائمة بالفنانين المبدعين الذين يمكن تصنيفهم "رومنسيين" نطلُّ من خلالها على عالم روسو وليتون ستراتشاي وهوغو وتورنر وفاغنر وهيغل وغيرهم ممن أدركوا ثورة ثقافية عظيمة حصلت، إنها "الثورة الرومنسية" التي تستحق مركزاً مماثلاً للذي احتلته الثورات الأخرى، حتى وإن لم تكن لها نقطة انطلاق على غرار إعلان الاستقلال أو سقوط الباستيل، إلا أنه من المؤكد أن جيشاناً هائلاً بدأ يهز العالم الثقافي هو تغير وتحول وتطور في النظرة إلى مختلف الأنواع الإبداعية في الرسم والفلسفة والمسرح والشعر والأدب عموماً تم التعبير عنها بصيغ مختلفة. حاول تيم بلانينغ في هذا الكتاب أن يحدد أبرز صفاتها وأن يوضحها.
يرى المؤلف أن هناك ثورتان مهمتان أثَّرتا بشدة في العالم الحديث هما "الثورة الفرنسية" (أم حقوق الإنسان والحريات المدنية) و "الثورة الصناعية" (أم التكنولوجيا والتصنيع). ثم يضيف أن هناك ثورة ثالثة أثرت في عالمنا الحديث بشدة ولكن لم يُعرها المؤرخون العناية الكافية، ألا وهي "الثورة الرومنسية". ويفسر أن هذه الثورة وراء مفهوم الفنان الفردي المعاصر والقيمة التي أصبحنا نوليها للأعمال الفنية. كما إنها شكلت نظرتنا إلى العالم، نظرة لا يطغى عليها العقل لوحده، بل فيها مكان للمشاعر والأحاسيس الإنسانية.
والكتاب دراسة محكمة تبرز دور الثورة الرومنسية في نظرتنا الحالية إلى الآداب والفنون والتراث، وهو غني جداً بالمراجع للدارسين وللراغبين في مزيد من التعمق في هذه المسألة المحورية.
