يعتبر العلاج باليد عنصراً من عناصر الطب الصيني التقليدي استخدمه الصينيون قبل العلاج بالدواء بزمن طويل؛ وهو عبارة عن مجموعة من الطرق العلاجية الملائمة جداً التي تطبِّق أنواعاً مختلفة من التحفيز عند أجزاء محدَّدة ومتنوعة من اليد لتعزيز دورة التشي (الطاقة qi) والدم خلال خطوط الطول (قنوات الطاقة meridians).
ووفقاً لنظرية خطوط الطول في الطب الصيني التقليدي، ترتبط اليد بشكل وثيق من خلال خطوط الطول بالجلد، والأوعية الدموية، والعضلات، والأربطة، والعظام، والأعضاء الداخلية للجسم، ومن هنا تأتي أهمية التعرّف على التأثيرات التحفيزية والعلاجية في التدليك، والوخز بالإبر، ونقع اليدين، وكِي غونغ qigong (تهذيب طاقة الحياة)؛ في مقاومة المرض والحفاظ على الصحة وإطالة الحياة.
