إن الحلمُ الصيني يتمحور حول بلدٍ ثريٍّ وقويّ، أُمّةٍ مُنِحت حياة ً جديدة، وشعب سعيد. لن يكون الشعب سعيداً ما لم يكن البلد والمجموعات الإثنية بخير. بهذه العبارات خاطب شي جين بينغ رئيس جمهورية الصين الشعبية الصينيين بعد انتخابه شارحاً لهم الحُلم الصيني المكوَّن من تعليم أفضل، وأمنٍ وظيفيٍ أكبر، ومداخيل إضافية، وضمان اجتماعي ورعاية صحية، وأوضاع سكنية محسَّنة، وبيئة أكثر جمالاً يُمكن للأطفال أن ينمو فيها ويعملوا ويعيشوا بشكل جيّد... وقال أيضاً أشياء أخرى تعبِّر عن محتوى الحُلم الصيني والمسار المؤدي إلى تحقيقه عبر جمع مكوِّناته الثلاثة: الطريق الصيني، الروح الصينية، والقوة الصينية.
في هذا الكتاب يتحدث "رن شياوسي" عن الحُلم الصيني في عالم متعدِّد الأقطاب وماذا يعني للصين وبقيّة العالم. هذا الحلم الذي أصبح جوهر الهوية الوطنية للصين الساعية وراء استعادة منزلتها ونفوذها كقوةٍ عالمية اليوم كيف نشأ و إلى أي درب وصل؟ هو المجال الذي يدور حوله الكتاب مستطلعاً محطات تاريخية مهمة في السياسة التنموية والإصلاحية في الصين. والتي تعكس في نهاية الأمر كل مكونات الثقافة والقيم الاشتراكية الأساسية والروح الصينية المتناغمة مع أهداف الدولة والأُمّة والشعب.
قدم للكتاب بمقدمة "تساي مينغ تشاو"/ وزير الإعلام في مجلس الدولة الصيني ومما جاء فيها: "... تعود نشأة الصدى القوي الذي أثاره الحُلم الصيني إلى إيمان الشعب القوي بتحقيق هذا الحُلم. وفقاً لاستطلاع حول الوضع الراهن في مقاطعة غوانغدونغ جرى في حزيران/يونيو 2013، عبّرت الغالبية العظمى من المُجيبين عن موافقتهم على أن الحُلم الصيني أوجد حالةً تفاؤلية، واعتبر 89.4% منهم أن بالإمكان تحقيقه. تستند هذه التفاؤلية إلى واقع عثورنا على المسار الصحيح لبلوغ الحُلم، وهذا المسار هو الاشتراكية بخصائص صينية. لقد شُبِّع هذا المسار بخبرة في الإصلاح على مدى أكثر من 30 عاماً، وباستكشافٍ متواصل فاق الـ 60 عاماً منذ العام 1949، وبما يزيد عن 170 عاماً من التاريخ الحديث، وبحضارةٍ تعود إلى أكثر من 5000 عام.
الحلم الصيني لا يَعني الصين فقط؛ سيلبي حاجات العالم أيضاً. الحُلم الصيني ليس حُلماً وراء أبواب مُغلَقة؛ إنه حُلمُ تعاونٍ لصالح كلا الطرفين ومفتوحٌ على بقيّة العالم".
