شكّل القراصنة تهديداً جدياً للأسطول التجاري الصيني الذي تعبر سفنه خليج عدن، كما شكلوا تهديداً لسائر سفن الدول الأخرى، لذلك، قررت الصين تحمل مسؤوليتها الدولية، فأرسلت مدمرات إلى خليج عدن لحماية حركة الملاحة. لقد اتخذت الصين قرارها في اليوم السابق للهجوم على السفينة جينهوا 4 والتصدي لهجوم القراصنة.
كان القرار 1851 الذي أقره مجلس الأمن وبالإجماع في العام 2008 حول مكافحة القرصنة والسطو المسلح في البحر قبالة سواحل الصومال، هو المخرج للصين التي خشيت أن يكون إرسال قواتها البحرية للقيام بمهمات في المياه الدولية مخالفاً للقانون الدولي. وفي التاسع عشر من كانون الأول من العام نفسه أعلنت الحكومة الصينية أنها قررت إرسال قوة بحرية في مهمة لقيادة عمليات مرافقة في خليج عدن وفي المياه التي تقابل السواحل الصومالية.
في هذا الكتاب يتحدث الصحافي كيان زياوهو عن ذكرى الأيام المئة والعشرين التي أمضاها على متن سفينة بحرية مع قوة المهام الصينية لمكافحة القراصنة وكيف واجه هو والضباط والجنود تحديات جساماً، ونفذوا مهماتهم وكأنها مهمات حياة أو موت، فقد رافقوا السفن العابرة، ولبوا نداءات الاستغاثة، وأنقذوا السفن التجارية وردعوا القراصنة وتجنبوا مراراً وتكراراً إطلاق النار. وعلى مدى أشهر أوقفوا 418 قارباً مشتبهاً به، وصادروا 358 قارباً منها ومدوا يد العون لثلاث سفن كان الخطر يحدق بها، واستعادوا سفينة استولى عليها القراصنة، وعندما أنهوا مهماتهم نالوا إشادة دول العالم قبل دولتهم التي أوفدتهم، لقد كتبت حكمة الضباط وبسالة الجنود صفحات مجيدة في تاريخ البحرية الصينية.
