مرَّ أكثر من 50 عاماً منذ أن أوفدت الصين فريقاً للمساعدات الطبية في الخارج إلى الجزائر في 6 أبريل 1963. وبعد ذلك، تم إرسال مجموعة من الفرق الطبية الصينية عبر القارة الأفريقية إلى المستشفيات أو في جولات حول البلدان، حيث تقدم معدات طبية مجانية والطب. عملت الفرق الطبية الصينية على زرع بذور "الحب والصداقة والحضارة" في أكثر من 60 دولة ومنطقة، وتشديد روابط البلاد مع الدول النامية الأخرى، وتسهيل الصداقة بين الشعبين الصيني والأفريقي، وتعزيز التبادل الصيني – الأجنبي في مجالات الاقتصاد والثقافة والصحة العامة.
يحيط كتاب «إنقاذ الأرواح بحب لا محدود» بتاريح فرق المساعدات الطبية الصينية في أفريقيا منذ العام 1963 إلى العام 2012، ويعرض الجهود الفائقة التي بذلتها الفرق الطبية لحماية صحة الشعوب المستفيدة وهي خدمات مجانية غطت الحكومة الصينية نفقاتها، بالتعاون مع المنظمات الدولية ويتألف أعضاء هذه الفرق من أطباء ومساعدين طبيين في مجالات متنوعة، وقد استفاد من هذه المساعدات بلدان مثل الجزائر وراوندا ومدغشقر وموريتانيا وتنزانيا وزائير واليمن والسودان وجزر القمر والكونغو وغينيا وغيرها من البلدان.
