تجاوز الدكتور عادل عبد المهدي في بحثه هذا كثيراً من المشكلات الفكرية التي سقط فيها كثير من المفكرين العرب، الذين لم يعنوا بدراسة مقدمات تاريخ هذه الأمة، ولم يكتشفوا جدليته، ولا الخصائص الذاتية التي تكونت ضمنها مجتمعاتهم، ولا النسق الذي حكم تطور تلك المجتمعات، فهي -شاء أولئك المفكرون أم أبوا- مجتمعات "الكلمة" بها نشأت وتكونت، وبها استمرت وتستمر "وبانهيار الكلمة" تنهار، فليس عبثاً أن تضم منطقة الوسط من العالم -منظقتنا العربية- أهم الأماكن المقدسة والمحرمة لدى البشرية، وأن تكون موطناً لسائر الأديان السماوية، ومجموعة من الديانات الوضعية. وليس عبثاً أن تكون مستودعاً لسائر الثروات الاستراتيجية التي يتوقف عليها مصير الحضارة المعاصرة. فمنطقتنا هذه منحت إنسانها مقومات وجوده، فإن أخطأ إنسان هذه المنطقة تلك المقومات فإنه سوف يتوجه نحو فنائه العملي بمقاييس السنن، ولكن إنسان هذه المنطقة حتى بمقاييس هذه السنن لن يدركه "الفناء المستريح" بل إن قدره أن يستمر في معاناة ومكابدة وشقاء، حتى يعي ذاته من جديد، ويكتشف نفسه، ويكتسب وعياص وجودياً حضارياً يستوعب ويتجاوز كل المظاهر الحضارية الراهنة.
من هنا تستمد هذه الدراسة القيمة أهميتها عندي، فهي من محاولات بناء "الوعي الجديد" لأبناء منطقتنا في الصميم، فالحاضر امتداد لماض، ومنطلق لمستقبل. وقد وفق المؤلف الفاضل إلى عملية دمج تقه في دائرة "السهل الممتنع" بين المادي والنفسي والعقلي والوجداني، مبيناً أثر الدين في أهم قضايا الاقتصاد، منبهاً إلى الأسئلة التي يطرحها الاقتصاد على الدين، فهو يتحدث عن الثوابت والمتغيرات في مجتمعاتنا الإسلامية، ليجعل منها إطاراً واسعاً يتسع لتناول الزمان والمكان والإنسان، فيتكشف بذلك دور العامل الاقتصادي في إطار "منظومة كلية متكاملة" وهو يعرج على النظريات المغايرة والأفكار المفارقة لدى الآخرين، ويبرز الفروق بينها وبين مقابلاتها الإسلامية، بشكل لا يجعلك تشعر بأنك تقرأ عملاً دفاعياً، بل عملاً علمياً قائماً على بيان "الأشباه والنظائر" وتمييز "النقائض والأضداد".
