هو محمد إبراهيم الدسوقي البساطي، أديب مصري معاصر ينتمي إلى جيل الستينيات.
ولد عام 1937 في بلدة الجمالية المطلة على بحيرة المنزلة بمحافظة الدقهلية.
وحصل على بكالوريوس التجارة عام 1960.
عمل مديراً عاماً بالجهاز المركزي للمحاسبات، ورئيساً لتحرير سلسلة "أصوات" الأدبية التي تصدر في القاهرة عن الهيئة العامة لقصور الثقافة.
تدور معظم أعماله في جو الريف من خلال التفاصيل الدقيقة لحيوات أبطاله المهمشين في الحياه الذين لا يهمهم سطوة السلطة أو تغيرات العالم من حولهم.
نشر البساطي أول قصة له عام 1962م بعد أن حصل على الجائزة الأولى في القصة من نادي القصة بمصر.
للبساطي حوالي عشرين عملاً ما بين الروايات والمجموعات القصصية من رواياته: "التاجر والنقاش" (1976) "المقهى الزجاجي" (1978) "الأيام الصعبة" (1978) "بيوت وراء الاشجار" (1993) "صخب البحيرة" (1994) "أصوات الليل" (1998) "ويأتي القطار" (1999) "ليال أخرى" (2000) "الخالدية" "جوع" والتي رشحت للفوز بالجائزة العالمية للرواية العربية في دورتها الثانية.
وله عدة مجموعات قصصية منها: "الكبار والصغار" (1968) "حديث من الطابق الثالث" (1970) "أحلام رجال قصار العمر" (1979) "هذا ما كان" (1987) "منحنى النهر" (1990) "ضوء ضعيف لا يكشف شيئاً" (1993) "ساعة مغرب" (1996)

"خايلتني زوجتي والنوم يأخذني. جاءت كما رأيتها لدى ذهابي في إجازة. كنت واقفاً وسط الحقائب. أقبلت مهرولة، خجلة من الفرحة التي غمرتها، تنظر هنا وهناك حتى لا تلتقي عيونناً. تلبس جلباباً خفيفاً بدون كم، مفتوح الصدر، يشف عن انسياب فخذيها. متأهبة لترمي نفسها في حضني... وقفت ساكناً.. أخشى الحركة. كم افتقدت هذه اللحظة...".
مرة أخرى يقف بنا محمد البساطي في هذه الرواية على الحدود بين الواقع والخيال، في مهارة لا يجيدها إلا القليلون، إنها رواية عن الغربة التي تسحب الروح، وتلمس واقعاً لا يقتصر على المصريين بل يشاركهم فيه أبناء شعوب أخرى.
