"خطوت خطوتين أخريين، فصرت في وسط المدخل، تحت المصباح الذي يتدلى من مركز السقف والذي يشكل حتى الآن مصدر النور كله، ليبت هناك لحظة بدت لي كبرهة دون نهاية. كل شيء كان في سكون تام. ورغم الباب الذي تركته مفتوحاً خلفي، فلم تدخل نسمة واحدة لتحرك هذا الصمت الجاثم على الجدران منذ زمن يصعب عليّ تحديده. فكرت بالخروج والعودة على عقبيّ، فقد كان الصمت موحشاً من الداخل وأكبر من طاقتي على احتماله. وباقترابي من الأشياء المعلقة على الجدران، اتضح لي عمق المسافة التي قطعتها. كل شيء هنا وحي بقدومه البعيد، وللحظة فكرت أني لو أمسكت بما على الجدران لتهاوى كل شيء واستحال إلى رماد. وتهيأت للخروج واستعدت قدماي لمغادرة المكان في اللحظة التي سعت صوت ورقة تقلب في كتاب. صوت تكسر ورقة وسقوطها بكسل على أوراق أخرى. أدركت لحظتها أن إنساناً ما هناك خلف الباب الموصد الذي يتسرب من تحته النور. بهدوء خطوت من جديد ثم أدرت بكرة الباب المعدنية ودفعتها. اتسع المشهد الذي بين عيني وانفتحت غرفة كبيرة مبنية بالكتب.. جالت عيناي في الغرفة ثم حطتا قريباً من المصباح الذي يتدفق ضوؤه بصورة فائرة، ضئيلة ويوشك على الانطفاء. كان المصباح يتوسط منضدة خشبية نضدت على جانبيها الكتب، وخلفه، في بقية النور الساكن، المنسكب بشحّة متناهية في فضاء المكتبة، لاحت لي هيئة شيخ جالس هناك، مغمور بالرحمة البخيلة لنور المصباح. أوشكت على حين غرّة مغادرة الغرفة، لكن قدميّ لم تطيعا وبقيت مشدوداً في مكاني بوحي قوّة مجهولة".عندما تداعب الذكريات مخيلتنا، ننطلق في أفكارنا وراء طيف وأطياف وثم استرسالات نهدهد بها حلماً هو بعيد محطم قابع في الثنايا والحنايا من ذواتنا. هكذا يسوح جبار ياسين وراء ذكريات قادمة من عراق مثّل العروق في جسده. وإبعاد قسري جعل العودة إليه حلم مؤجل إن لم يكن منفيّ، فطفق ينشد عزاءً بالتغلغل في كومات ذكريات. ذلك كله صاغه جبّار ياسين في عمله هذا الذي يضع القارئ أمام الألم الإنساني وقسوة الذاكرة ولا جدوى من الكلمات في أبعادها الفلسفية. كما لو أنه يريد أن يقول أن الأقدار مكتوبة لكن على الإنسان النضال ضد النسيان.
