هو قاص وروائي وناقد وكاتب مسرحي لبناني، ولد في العاصمة اللبنانية بيروت عام 1948.
كتب عشر روايات ترجمت إلى العديد من اللغات وثلاث مسرحيات وله العديد من الكتابات النقدية.

هذه ليست قصة، وهي لن تلفت نظر القراء بشكل خاص، فالناس مشغولون في هذه الأيام بقضايا أكثر أهمية من قراءة القصص أو الاستماع إليها، والناس معهم كل الحق، لكن القصة حدثت.
والحقيقة أنها لم تحدث هكذا، "فقد قرأت في أحد الصباحات خبراً صغيراً في الجريدة "جريمة قتل مروعة في منطقة الأونيسكو"، ولا أعلم لماذا كلما قرأت كلمة مروعة تقفز إلى ذهني كلمة رائعة، فانطبعت العبارة في ذهني هكذا: جريمة قتل رائعة في منطقة الأونيسكو. قفزت عيناي عن هذه الجريمة الرائعة لتستقر على صورة القتيل. رجل في العقد الخامس من العمر، وآثار كدمات على الصدر العاري، وجروح وثقوب في الوجه. لم أتوقف طويلاً أمام الصورة، فأحلام الليل المرعبة تكفيني وأنا لست بحاجة إلى كوابيس جديدة. حاولت أن أتذكر فلم أتذكر الاسم، ثم تذكرن أنني ربما التقيت الصورة صغيراً جداً: "العثور على جثة رجل مجهول الهوية في محيط منطقة الأونيسكو في بيروت، قرب تمثال حبيب أبي شهلا، وعلى الجثة آثار جروح وكدمات وطلقات نارية، وقد أفاد تقرير الطبيب الشرعي أن الوفاة حدثت قبل ثلاثة أيام".
