هو قاص وروائي وناقد وكاتب مسرحي لبناني، ولد في العاصمة اللبنانية بيروت عام 1948.
كتب عشر روايات ترجمت إلى العديد من اللغات وثلاث مسرحيات وله العديد من الكتابات النقدية.

"هل تعرف، قال عادل، أنا حضرت فيلم جنكيز خان، فيلم غير معقول، فيلم متوحش، هل يمكن! هذا مستحيل، أخ يقتل أخاه ويطلق صيحات الفرح، هل هذا معقول. أنت مثل أخي، أنت أخي، هل أستطيع أن أقتلك. أنا أقتلك أو أنت تقتلني وتضحك! مستحيل هذا توحش... سألني عادل ماذا أفعل... قلت له أني أكتب القصص، ولماذا القصص؟ سألني. قلت له إني أقتل جنكيز خان على الورق. أكتب على ورقة بيضاء وأقتله. ضحك عادل، أنت رجل تحلم، قال".
عندما يصبح الواقع مغرقاً بالألم مغرقاً بالتناقضات تضحى رائحة الصابون فكرة وتصبح فقاعات الصابون فكرة وتصبح فقاعات الصابون مجالاً للتكرر داخلها والصعود إلى عالم الأحلام، ثم السقوط على ورق هو أرض الخلاص، يكتب عليها إلياس خوري آلاماً غاص بها عند منعطفات تلك الحرب الأهلية اللبنانية التي حصدت الأخضر واليابس من النفوس. يكتبها إلياس خوري ليمحيها وكأنها ما كانت.
اقتلني، لأنك إذا قتلتني، أنا الذي من لحمك ودمك، فإنك تستطيع أن تفعل كل شيء، تقتل من تشاء، وسترتجف كل الشعوب أمامك. أمسك جنكيز خان السيف وقطع رأس شقيقه، الرأس يطير في الهواء، ضربة سيف واحدة والرأس يطير، الألوان الحمراء تغطي الشاشة، صهيل الأحصنة التي تقفز والنار التي تلتهم كل شيء.
