من بين مستكشفي شمال شبه الجزيرة العربية، يحتل ألويس موزيل – وهو الآن أستاذ الدراسات الشرقية في جامعة تشارلز يونيفيرسيتي، براغ – موقعاً فريداً بسبب اتساع واستمرار وشمول ملاحظاته والوصول إلى الفهم الأفضل للتقارير التي جاءتنا من العصور القديمة عن هذه المنطقة ونشوء التوحيد، وهو المفهوم الذي كان على نحو خاص من صفات فكر أهل الصحراء وإلقاء الضوء على الدور الذي كانت شبه الجزيرة العربية تلعبه في التاريخ الأكثر اتساعاً للحضارة: كانت هذه الأهداف العامة التي يتمّ البحث عنها ولا يمكن الحصول عليها إلا بالدراسة الدقيقة للبلاد وشعبها" بهذه العبارات جرى وصف مؤلَّف موزيل هذا في مقالة ظهرت في مجلة Geographical Review" عدد نيسان ( أبريل) 1927.
شكّلت الرحلات الموصوفة في هذا المجلد جزءاً واحداً فقط من الجولات الواسعة في صحارى شبه الجزيرة العربية بين عامي 1896 و1915 ولقد أسّست أعمال موزيل السابقة في بلاد التوراة: موآب وإيديوم أو بلاد العرب الصحراوية "Arabia Deserta" للجغرافيين الكلاسيكيين شهرته الأوروبية كمستكشف وكدارس عميق لحياة البداوة وللتاريخ القديم للبلاد العربية. في عام 1898 قام موزيل بالاستكشاف المذهل لـ "Amra Quser Famous" أو قلعة " عمره" قرب رأس وادي سرحان، وبين عامي 1908 و1915 قام باستكشافات أكثر اتساعاً في الصحارى الواسعة بين دجلة وحدود سوريا المستوطنة وإلى الجنوب وإلى داخل نجد. وقد نشرت الجمعية الجغرافية الأمريكية في – نيويورك – روايات مفصّلة لهذه الاستكشافات يرافقها ملاحظات طبوغرافية وتاريخية متقنة، من خمسة مجلدات بين 1926 – 1928. ويعطي مجلد سادس من السلسلة نفسها، وهو " أخلاق وعادات قبيلة الرولّة"، وصفاً واسعاً للأنثروبولوجيا الوصفية والعادات الشعبية للقبيلة البدوية الأكثر قسوة في شمال شبه الجزيرة العربية.
