تعصف بالمنطقة العربية اليوم ظاهرة اجتماعيّة قُصوى، غاية في التّعقيد والخطورة، تنذر بتفكّك بعض مجتمعاتها، وفي الحدّ الأدنى إعادة تشكيل خرائطها. إنّها ظاهرة الإرهاب، أو ما تطلق عليه هذه الدراسة في بعض المواضع «العنف الجذري» الذي يفكّك ولا يبني لأنّه بلا بدائل على الأقلّ في حالتنا هذه التي تتعلّق بفاعلين اجتماعيين كلّ مشروعهم شدّ الحاضر إلى الماضي باعتماد الشدّة. فالجهاد، في مرجعيتهم العقديّة، «شدّة وغلظة وإرهاب وإثخان في العدوّ وتشريد به». وأن تجعل من القتل طريقاً وحيداً للدولة معناه سعياً حثيثاً نحو إنهاك الدولة وتفكيكها. ممّا يجعل السؤال ممكناً: هل قرّر بعض العرب، ومنهم ليبيا وسوريا والعراق، التنازل عن خرائطهم كلّها أو بعضها على الأقل؟ من أين تأتي هذه القدرة على تفكيك الذّات بذاتها؟ لماذا كلّ هذه الهشاشة في تماسك المجتمع حدّ الدّفع باتجاه الانهيار يوماً بعد يوم؟ كيف يمكن لمجتمعات شديدة التمسّك بهويّتها وثقافتها أن تفعل كلّ شيء لفنائها فتقيم «مذبحة لتراثها» بعبارة جورج طرابيشي في اللحظة التي تتصوّر أنّها تقبل على الشهادة من أجله؟ كيف ومتى يمكن أن يكون التمسّك بالجذور عند العرب هو عينه موطن الضّعف فيهم. والعرب هنا ليس اسم جنس أو عنصر، بل جماعة بشرية بالمعنى الأنثروبولوجي للكلمة عرفت وحدة التاريخ والجغرافيا والثقافة. هل أنّ الجرح النرجسي ذو الطبيعة الأنثروبولوجية والذي يعيشه العرب بسبب الهزيمة هو الذي يدفع بعضهم إلى اتخاذ قرار نهايتهم على الأقلّ رمزياً؟ أم هل أنّ إخفاق العرب في توسيع المشاركة السياسية وتحقيق الديمقراطيّة منذ نهاية القرن الرابع الهجري هو الذي أطلق مارد الإرهاب بعد أن حوصر الإنسان العربي لقرون تحت وطأة الاستبداد؟
