أكره القمر وأخشاه، فحين يشرق على مشاهد مألوفة ومحبّبة فإنه يجعلها غريبة وبشعة.
كان الزمن فصل الصيف عندما أشرق القمر على الحديقة القديمة التي كنتُ أتجول بها؛ وسط أطياف الصيف والزهور المخدّرة وبحار أوراق الشجر النديّة التي تُلقي على المرء أحلاما مجنونة ذات ألوان زاهية. وعندما مشيتُ بجانب تيار الماء الصافي والضحل رأيت تموّجات غريبة يعلوها نور أصفر، كما لو أن تلك المياه الهادئة لم تقاوم التيار الذي أخذها إلى محيطات غريبة ليست من هذا العالم. صامتة وملألئة... مشرقة ومؤذية... رأيتُ تلك المياه التي لعنها القمر وهي تجري ولا أعلم إلى أين مسعاها؛ بينما ارتعشت أزهار اللوتس البيضاء على ضفاف النهر واحدة تلو الأخرى تحت ريح الليل الهادئة وسقطت على الجدول بكل يأس، وحامت بعيدا تحت الجسر الصخري المقوّس، وهي تحدّق إلى الوراء بنظرة شريرة أتت من وجه هادئ وميت.
جريت على طول الشاطئ وأنا أسحق الزهور النائمة بقدميّ الغافلتين وقد أصابني الجنون بسبب خوفي من أشياء مجهولة، ورأيت تحت نور القمر أن الحديقة لا نهاية لها؛ فالمكان الذي انتصبت فيه الجدران في النهار، رأيت محلّه الآن آفاقا جديدة من الأشجار والمسارات والزهور والشجيرات، والأصنام الحجرية والمعابد، وانحناءات الجدول الذي أناره القمر الأصفر وسط الضفاف المعشوشبة وتحت جسور الرخام البشعة. وهمست لي أزهار اللوتس الميتة بكل أسى، ودعتني أن أتبعها، كما لم أتوقّف عن المشي حتى تحول الجدول إلى نهر، وسالت مياهه على ساحل بحر شاسع ومجهول وسط أعمدة القصب المتمايلة والمستنقعات والشواطئ التي يعلوها الرمل اللامع.
أشرق القمر البغيض على هذا البحر، وعلى أمواجه الصامتة وُلِدت روائح غريبة. رأيت أزهار اللوتس وهي تختفي، وتمنيت لو أنّي أملك شبكة لأمسكها فأتعلم منها
