ناتسومي سوسيكي (باليابانية: 夏目 漱石) ناتسومي هو اسم العائلة (9 فبراير 1867 - 9 ديسمبر 1916) هو اسم الكتابة للمؤلف ناتسومي كينونوسوكي (夏目金之助) ويعتبر أشهر كاتب روايات يابانية في فترة ميجي (1868 - 1912). من أشهر أعماله هي كوكورو، بوتشان، أنا قط، وروايته الغير مكتملة الضوء والظلام. كان أيضا باحثا في الأدب البريطاني، ومؤلف شعر هايكو، شعر صيني، وقصص خيالية. استخدمت صورة سوسيكي على ورقة 1000 ين ياباني في الفترة بين عامي 1984 و2007.

في كتابه "وسادة من عشب"، أراد ناتسومي سوسيكي، رائد الرواية في اليابان الحديثة، أن يكتب، حسب شهادة له، "رواية - هايكو"، كلُّ ما تسعى إليه هو أن يحتفظ القارئ حين ينتهي من قراءتها بشعور معيّن بالجمال.
ولا يمكن للمرء إلّا أن يقرّ بأنه نجح في ذلك كلّ النجاح، ففي رائعته هذه، التي تعدّ أحد النصوص المؤسّسة للحداثة الأدبية في اليابان، يقدّم لنا سوسيكي نصّاً فريداً، ببنائه السردي المبتكر أوّلاً، حيث تمتزج الحكاية بالتحليقات الغنائية التأملية، وأحلام اليقظة بصائد الهايكو، واللغة الشعرية بالنقد الإجتماعيّ الساخر، وبموضوعه ثانياً، حيث يطرح السارد، وهو رسّام وشاعر، أسئلته الذكيّة وتأمّلاته العميقة حول الفنّ، والحبّ، والحرب، خلال رحلة إنسحابه إلى الجبال، بحثاً عن الإلهام واللوحة المثال.
لا يقترح النصّ على القارئ تتبّع حبكة سردية تقليدية، وإنْ لم يخل منها، بل معايشة التجربة الشعورية والمغامرة الجمالية لفنّانٍ باحثٍ عن خلاص نفسه من إنغماسها في العالم عبر فنٍّ مثالُه التجرّد من العاطفة.
