بعد سنوات على الثورات العربيّة، تدهور الوضع الاجتماعيّ في منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا. اتّسعت حالات فقدان الأمان السياسيّ والاقتصاديّ والشخصيّ، بينما انخفضت مداخيل النفط وتهاوت عائدات السياحة. على خلفيّة تصاعد الصّراعات المسلّحة وتفكيك هيكليّات الدولة، أُجبر كثيرون على ترك ديارهم، الأمر الذي ولّد الملايين من المشرّدين داخليّاً واللاجئين. غالباً ما يكون الشباب هم الأكثر تضرّراً نتيجة الاضطرابات. فكيف يتعاملون مع تلك الشكوك المستمرّة، وما الذي يدفعهم إلى السعي لتحقيق أحلامهم الخاصّة رغم تلك الصعوبات؟
في هذا الكتاب الذي يشكّل مرجعاً مهمّاً، قام فريق دوليّ من الباحثين بمسحٍ شملَ 9 آلاف شخص، تتراوح أعمارهم بين ستّ عشرة وثلاثين سنة من: البحرين، ومصر، والأردن، ولبنان، والمغرب، وفلسطين، وسوريا، وتونس، واليمن. نتج عن ذلك دراسة متعمّقة لوضع الشباب هي الأكثر شموليّة حتى اليوم. ونظراً إلى سرعة تطوّر الأحداث، كانت النتائج غير متوقّعة في حالات كثيرة.
