تنسب تحفة القلوب إلى الداعي اليمني المطلق الثالث، حاتم بن إبراهيم الحامدي، (ت: 596/ 1199). وكتبت الرسالة على إثر أفول الفاطميين في مصر والصليحيّين في اليمن وإثر السيطرة الأيّوبية على المنطقتين وأيضاً في إطار الحروب الصليبية وخلال بقاء الإسماعيلية في السياسة المضطربة للشرق الأوسط.
وتفصّل الرسالة أهمية الكتابات الأولى للدعاة الفاطميين، حميد الدين الكرماني، والمؤيّد في الدين الشيرازي الذي كان الأب الروحي للدعوة اليمنية.
وتحذّر الرسالة المجموعة الطيّبيّة من الغلاة ضماناً لبقائهم في اليمن ولارتباطهم بالدعوة في غرب الهند.
تستمرّ مكانة الداعي المطلق كما جاء في الرسالة إلى يومنا هذا في رفض المجموعة الطيّبيّة لأيّ تغيير.
