هذا الكتاب هو تتمة لسيرة حياة مؤسس السعودية الملك عبد العزيز، التي بدأ كتابتها التويجري في كتابه: "لسراة الليل هتف الصباح". وفيه توثيق هام لرسائل بين الملك عبد العزيز والشريف حسين وغيره، لم يعتمد فيه الكاتب، في مصادر وثائقه، على مؤرخين سعوديين، بل اختارهم من غير السعودية توخياً للموضوعية، وكانت وظيفته دور ساعي البريد ـ على حد تعبيره ـ وإن تقصّد أن يطرح أكثر من سؤال وعلامة استفهام عن دور تلك الحقبة ومسؤوليتها في ما آل إليه اليوم العالم العربي من وهن وتشتت.
وفي هذا الكتاب أيضاً مجموعة من الرسائل الهامة بين الملك عبد العزيز والشريف حسين تؤرخ لمرحلة حساسة وخطيرة من حياة المملكة العربية السعودية والعالم العربي.
ويضم الكتاب ملحقاً هاماً لرسالة مفقودة بعث بها الملك عبد العزيز في 1912م، أي قبل إعلان الشريف حسين "الثورة الكبرى"، ويدل فحواها على أنه قصد بها الشريف حسين، يحذره فيها عبد العزيز من مخاطر هذه الثورة، وما يمكن أن تلحقه من تبدّد العرب وضياعهم وتقسيم وطنهم الكبير إلى دويلات متشاحنة ومتصارعة. والكاتب هنا لا يعتبر الشريف حسين متواطئاً أو متآمراً، بل يرى فيه ضحية لما جرى حبكه، في غفلة منه، في خفايا دوائر السياسة البريطانية، ويحاول أن يعرف من خدعه: هل هم حاشيته، أم أبناؤه، أم خبث مستشاريه، أم جعله الدهاء الاستعماري يصدق غافلاً أن قرار "الثورة" سوف يعود بالخير والوحدة على العالم العربي؟!!
