أحداث غريبة وقعت في حيّ المطرية القاهري الشهير عند بداية الألفية. أبطالها السرّيون عنتر عضمة وعلاء بوكس والمطرب الشعبي أيمن حلالة. بين مؤسسة العمّ زينهم الترفيهية ومدرسة عمر بن الخطّاب الثانوية وبين العاصمة الأرچنتينية آلاف الأميال، فكيف جاءت القلعة إلى جوار البحر؟ وما هي الحقيقة وراء المطرية؟ وهل تُنسب إلى الوليّ الصالح سيدي المطراوي حقًا أم هو من يُنسب إليها، أم هل يكمن سرّ التسمية في تلك الشجرة التي استظلّت بها مريم العذراء أثناء هروبها مع المسيح رضيعًا إلى مصر، والتي لا يزال جذعها المتيبّس باقيًا وسط بلوكاّت الإسكان الشعبي في ذلك الحيّ العتيق. وما علاقة حواة الأفاعي ممن ينسبون أنفسهم إلى القطب الصوفي أحمد الرفاعي بكلّ ذلك؟ هل لهم حقًا تنظيم خفيّ يتلاعب بمصائر من يقع في طريقهم؟ بخلاف الراوي الموحّد، الذي يسرد قصص هذه المجموعة كلّها، فهناك خيط آخر يُنظِّم الحكايات في مصفوفة أقرب إلى أن تكون رواية مُهشَّمة أو متتالية قصصية بحسب التصنيف الذي أحدثه المعلّم إدوار الخرّاط واتبعه من بعده كُتَّاب عديدون.
بعد خبرة في الترجمة الصحفية، برز اسم محمد الفولي خلال السنتين الأخيرتين كمترجم لعدد من الأعمال الأدبية من أمريكا اللاتينية، وهنا يكشف لنا لأول مرة وجهه كقصّاص بارع، نلمح بين ثنايا سرده تأثره بنبرة الدعابة اللاتينية المميزة، وها هو في القصة الأخيرة التي يحمل الكتاب عنوانها، يحيل إلى نصّ "تقرير عن العميان" من رواية "أبطال وقبور" للأديب الأرچـنتيني إرنستو ساباتو. فيقدم له الفولي التحية من حيث يُعارِض نصه.
