Book Description
تدور أحداث الرواية في حقبة نهاية القرن التاسع عشر، وبالتحديد في عام 1890، حيث يجتمع خمسة أفراد بعدما قرروا أن يرتحلوا في الصحراء بحثًا عن كنز مجهول
في وادي جوف، كما يقودهم الشيخ يونس.
تأتي الفكرة، إذ تبناها في البداية مالك البدوي، بعدما تسربت له معلومة تفيد بوجود كنز مختبئ في الوادي، وأن من مروا هناك بجوار المكان لاحظوا ظهور علامات تفيد بوجود الذهب في ذلك المكان.
ثم ينطلق الخمسة في رحلة المعاناة الطويلة، ويقرر قائدهم الشيخ يونس أن يضع لهم قواعد للرحلة بمجرد أن تطأ أقدامهم أرض الصحراء حتى لا يقعوا في فخ التيه.
تسرد الرواية أيضًا الصراع التاريخي السائد بين سكان الصحراء من البدو والمزارعين آنذاك، كما تحكي عن الغزو الإنجليزي لمصر في تلك المدة، وكيف حاول الغنجليز تبني استراتيجيات جديدة في حين فشلت استراتيجياتهم المتبعة من العنف المفرط آنذك ضد البدو وأبناء الواحات
