كتاب مترجم من اللغة الإسبانية (من العالم الجديد إلى العالم القديم) لمؤلفه الكاتب الإسباني لويس ديث دل كورال (1911-1998) والذي صدر نصه الأصلي باللغة الاسبانية سنة 1963. والكتاب، المصنف في خانة أدب الرحلات، يسلط المؤلف الضوء من خلاله على الطبيعة الجغرافية التي حددت تاريخ الاستعمار والتاريخ المحلي لشعوب المناطق التي اجتازها، وهو إذ تهبط طائرته إلى تلك النواحي يلاحظ الطبائع المختلفة ويتدرج في العمق التاريخي والأنثروبولوجي لهذه الأراضي مزودا سرده الأخاذ بالطرائف التي تناثرت بين شعوب هذه البقاع. وهو حصيلة رحلتين أولاهما كانت إلى الأراضي الأمريكية الجنوبية خلال الفترة ما بين عامي 1955 و1956؛ أما الثانية فكانت إلى الأراضي الأسيوية بين 1961 و1962 بالإضافة إلى رحلتين أخريين إلى دول الشرق الأوسط في سنتي1957 و1961.
وفي تعليق له على مضمون الكتاب يقول المترجم علي المنوفي أنه رؤية شديدة الخصوصية لمفكر إسباني أراد أن يشاهد بصمة بلاده الحضارية على العالم الجديد ويعترف بأن مفتاح فهم أمريكا اللاتينية لا بد أن يكون هو الأندلس؛ كما أراد أيضا أن يعرف أن حوض الأبيض المتوسط له بصمته غير المعلنة في الثقافة اليابانية.
للإشارة فإن المترجم الدكتور علي المنوفي يشتغل أستاذا للغة الإسبانية وآدابها بجامعة الأزهر الشريف، ترجم العديد من الكتب من الاسبانية وحصل على وسام الاستحقاق من الملك الاسباني فيليبي السادس.
