يردد آل الدكر أن جدهم الكبير كان صاحب مزاج عالٍ، باع نصيبه في الأندلس، وصرفه على نسوان أوروبا الحسناوات حتى لم يبقَ لديه سوى القليل، فهبط على هذه الأرض واشتراها من مالكيها، وعاد إلى سيرته. ومثلما أضاع ملكه في الأندلس؛ باع أرضه في البلد، وصرف على النسوان والصرمحة والخمر والحشيش، الذي لم يكن واحد في بر مصر كله يعرف ماهيته.. طيّر الرجل أمواله، كما تطير أدخنة الحشيش، منه لله، أضاع الأندلس، وباع الأرض لكل من هب ودب، وصار العبيد - عراة الثياب، حفاة الأقدام، سود الوجوه - أصحاب أملاك، وأصبح أولاد الأصول أبناء الأمير الدكر لايملكون حتى الفتات". تعيش عائلة الدكر على أمجاد مؤسسها، بينما أحفاد من كانوا يومًا عبيدًا عنده يتطاولون على ماضيهم العريق، فالعائلة تواجه خطرًا داهمًا يهدد وجودها، وهاهو الدكر الوحيد الباقي يواجه مصيرًا يبدو مماثلًا لجده المؤسس.. فالعون يا أولياء الله الصالحين، المدد يا سيدي أبو داوود الطائر!
