تتخذ الرواية أسلوب السيرة الذاتية كحيلة فنية، تسعى من خلالها لرصد شبكة العلاقات المعقدة- وتداعياتها الإنسانية- بين "هاتوري مساناري"، المهندس الفيلسوف الحالم، وكثير ممن فتنتهم مدينته فارتفعوا به إلى مصاف الآلهة.
وعبر بناء روائي محكم، تعيد طرح رؤية معاصرة لليوتوبيا التاريخية، التي شكلت أحلام الفلاسفة والمؤرخين عبر تاريخ طويل من الطموح الإنساني، والبحث عن جنة أرضية بديلة لجنة أبينا آدم التي أخرجتنا منها تفاحة!
من يقرأ منكم كتاب "الخالق" فله أن يصدق أن "هاتورى مسانارى" كان يضطر في حضور "ريتا" أن يسدل الستائر وإلا احترقت شبكية عينه من فرط الإضاءة، وأنه كان يطلب منها ألا تكشف له عن نهديها، معًا، في وقت واحد، لأن الحيرة تقتله، وأنه كان يجد نفسه مرغمًا إن شاء أن يلمس بجسمه العاري جسمها العاري أن يعصب عينيه. أما أنا فلا أصدق هذا. اللهم إلا بمقدار ما أصدق أن غربان "المدينة" كلها هي من نسل الغربان اليتامى، أبناء الغراب القتيل، الذي دفنه أخوه أمام أبينا "قابيل". وتصديقي لهذه الخرافة المبتكرة- وأمثالها- لا يعدو نوعًا من الإعجاب، بطرافة فكرتها أولًا، وبتأثيرها ثانيًا. تخيلوا زوار المدينة، وهم يتحاشون غربانها الشريرة، ولكنهم يعلمون في الوقت نفسه، أن هذه الغربان يتامى، عريقة في اليتم، وأنها ابنة الغراب القتيل، في حين أن هؤلاء الزوار- مثلنا- أبناء القاتل القديم "قابيل".
